In time I have come to realize our mother tongue is not merely words, it is our psychology.
It is our culture, the language of our ancestors, the medium through which all our history has taken place.

These words tell our story just like they did for the ones that came before us. Colonisation made sure every aspect of our culture be reduced, downsized… looked down upon. It made us averse to our own beliefs. It cruelly made us question our own values. And when we did that, we indirectly looked down upon our own existence.

We unconsciously told ourselves that ours is a story that does not matter.
We looked down on our indigenous people, our heritage, our habits that make us ‘us’.
We permitted the world to tell us how to live through a foreign lens. And our schools, our society, our media…everyone played their role in it.

This piece is an effort to embrace culture and foster love for our roots.
