Gurbani repeatedly mentions that Gur-Shabad helps the heart lotus blossom forth. Only through the heart lotus is divinity able to illuminate us.
Hence, to symbolise this journey The Sarovar is strewn with lotus flowers.
Both man and woman, irrespective of gender has access to this source of divinity and only through Guru Di Bani can it be attained.
