Description
I often think of what Guru Gobind Singh Ji thought when he envisioned the Khalsa.
What did he gain by giving people an identity to help them stand out? What purpose would
a turban on the head solve? What purpose would a woman warrior serve? What was he thinking when he raised his four sons to fight till death?
The only answer I can think of is: He thought of the greater good. In every decision, he envisioned a population of people who would live free, with their own identity, their own value system, with the freedom to exercise their rights…and to live up to the highest version of themselves.
He thought of centuries down the line, when people like us would have the power to live their own destiny and be authentic. He hoped all his children would live out their lives with dignity and passion. He hoped they would be good and brave…kind. They would be people that represented compassion. They would be the kind of people, people would turn to in times of need.
The turban would represent courage and kindness. The hair would represent simplicity and self acceptance. Women warriors would represent gender equality and self worth. A ‘Kaur’ and ‘Singh’ are just an expression of the right to freedom and self expression. For only in true self expression can God be found. True authenticity is true spirituality.
May we all live up to be the people our Guru envisioned us to be.
